In the low RPM range and on light throttle it sounds great. Nice growl and about as good of a tone as you are going to get out of the ecoboost. At cruise it is so quiet it feels like the engine isn’t even on. Under WOT or a heavy pedal however it will wake the dead. I can’t even imagine running the ATAK on here. This is annoyingly loud under heavier load. The black chrome tips look great on darker trucks. It took me 53 minutes to install. I think if I were to do it over I would have got the touring. To be fair I also have the Roush CAI which opens things up more so that could be playing a small part in the noise.

I started shopping for exhausts for my 2016 F-150, 2.7L EcoBoost almost a year ago. The S-Type was one of the first options I explored, and after a lot of back and forth I finally pulled the trigger in October. Extremely happy I chose it! On cold starts the truck has a loud, initial growl followed by a minute or two of deep purring while the system gets to temperature. This will be the only period while you’re not driving that the truck will be noticeably louder (and that’s what I was looking for!) As the truck warms towards idle, you will notice a deeper note over stock, and when you are directly behind the pipes, a steady glug-glug-glug which I love. On warm starts, the glug-glug-glug sound comes on right away. Once the truck is at idle, you won’t notice any difference in volume over stock unless you are directly behind the pipes again. Stationary revs sound great too- a nice, deep, almost sports-car-esque tone with plenty of noise from the turbos spooling down. Having the muffler (as opposed to the ATAK with no muffler) is a must for EcoBoost applications IMO. I ran the truck with open downpipes while between the stock and Borla exhausts and hearing the raw 2.7L V6 + Turbo noise was… interesting… but definitely something that needs the aid of a good muffler to sound nice. Borla fits that spot perfectly. Once you get on the road, the quality of this system shines even more. When in lower gears and driving casually, you will hear nice deep revving from the engine when accelerating and upon reaching cruising speeds (35-55 MPH on normal city/back roads) you will only hear a faint, deeper version of the factory cruising note. Cruising on the interstate makes you forget its even there, as from anywhere north of 65 MPH it is dead quite with no drone. If you decide to have some fun like I did though and get heavy on the throttle after install, you’ll hear more great, steady, rich tones from the exhaust as you push past 3,500-4,000 RPM. Even with the windows down, you’ll get some great noise without making it unbearable. The exhaust never sounds too high pitched either and all of the tones blend into each other beautifully. Install was a breeze, taking about 2 hours overall. The hardest part was removing the old system, for which I had to sawzall the over-axle pipe. Once the old one is out, the new one can go in with about 45 minutes worth of work. Make sure everything is tight and fitted properly! Material quality is great as well. The 305 stainless looks way better than the stock material, and the black chrome tips go great with my Lithium Gray paint and black trim. Only issue I had at all was that the passenger side exhaust tip sits about 1/4 inch further towards the front of the truck than the driver side. I’m going to mess with the hangers sometime and see if that helps, but you don’t notice it unless you’re looking for it. I have not had any dyno testing done on the truck before or after install, so I can’t say anything about numerical performance increase. What I will say though is that the fun-factor of driving my truck has increased significantly. I’ve always loved my F-150 and the 2.7 is a great engine if taken care of, but this brought the whole system together for me. I’m still getting some numbers in for fuel economy as well, but there does not appear to be any loss. On top of the Borla, I am also running a K&N 63 Series Cold Air Intake. I plan on getting a BBK 67mm Throttle Body next to complete the setup. I hope this helps! I put a few videos on Youtube of my system if anyone wants to see more of this system before making a final decision. (screen name is Gung Ho Grippo). Happy shopping.

Went with this system after a month of research and really debating if the cost was worth it for my 2.7L. So far i am happy with the purchase. It sounds great – beefier sound without being annoying or uncontrollable when you hit the gas, and it is quiet with no drone in the cabin under normal cruising. At idle rpm, it is slightly louder then stock. Took a solid 4 hours to install using just a jack (no lift). Also a second person for removal of the old system and lining up the tips was helpful.

Great sound when you give it some gas but quiet when you want it to be. This was money well spent & on top of the great sound the two chrome tips sticking out look amazing.

the borla s exhaust is perfect i thought it was going to be to quiet since i have the atak on my 11. i love the quiet while cruising no drone then nail it and it wakes up. i will always buy borla thank you. it took a buddy and myself 2 hours to install.

If you get the glass pack reference, you know what I mean. Excellent from the diff forward. I had to take it to a muffler shop to make it fit evenly. Before the muffler shop: The left side hit the bumper, and the right side was down 3 inches. Brackets were not welded the same. It hits differential cover, on and on, It Sounds fantastic, cost me an extra $400 to make it fit correctly.

Although a higher priced kit, the Borla S-Type does not disappoint. It’s perfect for those that want a great sound that’s only aggressive when you want it to be.

Fit and finish was great other than I had to pry the tips apart a bit to get rid of a rattle at idle and the finish on the black tips doesn’t shine up the best overtime. Had this kit on my truck for 26,000 miles now and I can attest that the exhaust gets louder after break in. I was initially a little upset and thought it was quieter than I was hoping for. Now it’s louder and has some crackles and pops. Sounds exactly like what you want a 5.0 to sound like. No difference in power but the truck also isn’t tuned.

I was on the fence on whether or not I should purchase this exhaust. There is only so much you can hear from all the videos out there. I ended up not installing the exhaust pipes and just left it dumped right over the rear axel. Love the sound and clean look.

Exhaust has an absolutely beautiful aggressive tone when pressed past 2000 rpm’s. Plain nasty at 4000 + rpm’s. Very quiet and humble at idle. Worth every penny!
